SGT Colin Taylor’s book about policing one of the remotest corners of the British Isles is to be made into a new television show.

The Life of a Scilly Sergeant includes anecdotes such as the time a fully-grown officer leapt on to a child’s bike to pursue a miscreant.

The bestselling book describes the six years Sgt Taylor has spent keeping order on the Scilly Isles, including rushing to the aid of a stray seal pup that had found its way on to the high street and resolving a drunken row between two chefs on the merits of rock salt and sea salt.

And now Studio Lambert, which is responsible for programmes including Gogglebox and Undercover Boss, has optioned the rights to the book for TV.

Sgt Taylor will act as a consultant and executive producer during development of the project.

He said: “It will use elements from the book – and be a continuation of the book – so it becomes a returnable series about what goes on here through the eyes of a police officer.

“We’ll be looking at the nature of community and family, in a respectful and witty way, about a place that people have great affinity for.”
